Hello everyone! It’s the at-home cafe blog crew here. We’ve got a lot to talk about because 2024 was our 20th anniversary year—wow! On December 21, our Legendary Maid hitomi hosted a special maid service to celebrate and thank all the Masters and Princesses for their support. She also opened up about how she feels now that she’s hit this big milestone.

hitomi is not only an influential figure of at-home cafe, but a big part of the maid cafe culture in general as she is the one who created many of the globally known aspects of it such as the phrase “moe moe kyun” and many details of our world-setting! She is also our CBO(Chief Branding Officer)! We couldn’t be more proud to have her be a part of us, almost since the day we started!

We joined in on the fun at the AKIBA Cultures ZONE (ACZ – Maid Cafe location) and witnessed the big day up close. If you couldn’t make it in person, we’d love to share what happened and what hitomi had on her mind.

1. Star-Studded Event Members

To make this Special Maid Service extra special, Chimu, Renachi, Fuwaru, Yuyumero, and Mizukin all came to celebrate. They’ve been super busy, but they showed up ready to create a truly memorable day!

Beforehand, everyone wore our Anniversary Maid Uniform, which was introduced at “at-home fest 2024 SUMMER.” We took commemorative oversized polaroids (deka-cheki), and new maids passing by the photo area couldn’t stop whispering “Wow… that’s so stunning!” We couldn’t help but agree!

2. A Burst of Celebration Mood

Then the big day arrived. Over at the ACZ – Maid Cafe location, Hiiro and Palp surprised hitomi by making their own custom hair clip just for her. From the maids to the fairy staff, everyone got into a cheerful party vibe, which was so fun to see.

From the moment we opened our doors, a huge number of Masters and Princesses stopped by. The cafe was buzzing! hitomi wore her Anniversary Maid Uniform and was showered with “Congratulations!” all day long.

3. Mini-Event Kickoff with “Eien Maid Shugi♡”

Soon, it was time for the mini-event—which sold out immediately, by the way, and even extra tickets disappeared in a snap! The maid cafe was absolutely packed.

The first song was “Eien Maid Shugi♡,” a staple we’ve performed at AKIBA BROADWAY. As soon as it started, the Masters and Princesses went wild, and the maids on shift joined in by clapping along. Next, hitomi performed “Watashi no Anniversary,” a special song about how grateful she is on this big day. Cheers and applause filled the room. Then, everyone else stepped aside for a moment, leaving hitomi the spotlight.

4. Hitomi’s Thoughts, Straight from the Heart

hitomi:

“Thank you for coming to the hitomi 20th Anniversary Event. I really want to use this time to share my feelings and gratitude with you.

I started my journey at at-home cafe on December 17, 2004, so it’s been 20 years.

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what would feel different after hitting 20 years, but when people started telling me, ‘That’s amazing’ or ‘Congratulations!’ I realized it’s a huge deal.

It might sound odd, but I never really felt any sort of ‘20-year burden.’ It wasn’t about ‘suffering through 20 years’—it was more about doing something I love, and time just flew by.

I see being a maid as similar to being an artisan. The more you refine your maid service, the more you build a one-of-a-kind world nobody else can copy. And after all these years, I truly believe a maid can keep shining beyond her youth.

Some people might think 20 years is the finish line, but for me it’s just a checkpoint. I believe I can still shape my future. I want to keep pursuing my ideal version of a maid and really master this profession.

I’m convinced that you can be a maid for life if that’s your passion.

My plan is to always put our Masters and Princesses first and work alongside everyone here. And by the way, we have so many people at at-home cafe who take the maid profession seriously, all aiming to make our home even better.

We want every Master and Princess to proudly say, ‘I’m so glad I love at-home cafe!’ So we’ll keep doing our best to make it an even more magical place.

5. “Unmei no Story” Continues

Hearing hitomi open up—sometimes with tears—made the other event members emotional, too. Chimu said, “I’ve never seen you cry!” hitomi laughed, while telling her, “I used to be such a crybaby—always the first to tear up!”

To wrap up the day, they ended the day with “Unmei no Story(The Story of Our Destiny),” a song created for at-home cafe’s 20th anniversary. It was a perfect finale for this unforgettable milestone, and it reminded us that the bond between Masters, Princesses, and maids will keep going strong for years to come.
