Behind the Scenes of "Maid in Nippon" MV Shooting by @seventeen!
@seventeen (affectionately called “Assebu”), an idol unit from at-home cafe, is set to make their major debut with the single "Maid in Nippon," produced by Shō Ayanokōji from Kishidan! The debut single released on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
On Friday, December 13, our 5th-floor maid, Koguma, went undercover to report on the music video (MV) shoot, showcasing the ever-evolving Assebu!
Highlights from the Day
Shooting Started Early Under Director Takatoshi Tsuchiya
The MV was directed by Takatoshi Tsuchiya, renowned for his work with major corporations and famous artists. The team gathered early in the morning at Fuda Shrine in Chofu, Tokyo.
Despite the freezing temperatures, the members’ cheerful smiles stood out. Most members were up by 5 AM, while the magical fairies assisting the shoot started as early as 3 AM. The contrast between the shrine’s serene atmosphere and the pastel-colored costumes of Assebu added a unique charm to the shoot.
One of the members, Chinatsu, shared, “It was super cold, but dancing warmed us up quickly. However, standing barefoot on cold floors was a challenge!”
Meanwhile, Emachii joked about how she’s grown stronger compared to previous shoots. She added, “We want this song and MV to exceed the expectations of our masters and princesses and share Assebu’s unique charm with the world.”
Matching Interiors at the 4th Floor of at-home cafe
The next stop was the 4th floor of at-home cafe in Akihabara. Coincidentally, the pink-and-blue interiors matched the members’ new costumes. “Is this fate?” wondered Chiroru.
Nana, a new member from the 6th floor, led the lip-sync shoot. Initially nervous, Nana quickly warmed up with support from the team, who lovingly cheered her on. “I want to keep improving to do justice to this amazing opportunity,” she said.
Veteran member Chiroru reflected, “This MV feels more polished than ever. We hope our masters and princesses feel proud of supporting us.”
Final Scenes at a Studio in Setagaya
The day concluded in a Setagaya studio. Using LED screens, Akihabara’s vibrant streets were recreated as backdrops for solo shots. Chinatsu started, knowing she had to catch a Shinkansen later. “So many people are working hard for us; we want to deliver results everyone can celebrate,” she said with determination.
Koebi’s solo scene emphasized the contrast between the cute costumes and the powerful backdrop, capturing the MV’s essence perfectly. “We aim to showcase our unique blend of cuteness and strength through the MV and live performances,” she said.
Finally, Nana wrapped up the shoot with a solo scene. Though initially shy, her performance improved noticeably, earning praise from the director.
Closing Notes
The shoot concluded around 9 PM, marking the end of a long yet fulfilling day. The dedication of the team was palpable, and the Assebu members took their first big step toward their major debut.
Editor’s Note: As a first-time attendee of an MV shoot, I, Koguma from the 5th floor, witnessed the incredible collaboration between the staff and Assebu. From dawn to dusk, everyone worked tirelessly to make "Maid in Nippon" a success. The MV captures Assebu’s cuteness, coolness, and determination as idols. I’m already excited to see the final result!
